A deep thought I'd like to share:
A philosophy professor stood before his class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with rocks, rocks about 2" in diameter.
He then asked the students if the jar was full? They agreed that it was.
So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles, of course, rolled into the open areas between the rocks.
Sand wagon
He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.
The professor picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else.
He then asked once more if the jar was full. This time the students were sure and they responded with a unanimous "YES!"
Beer Can
The professor then produced two cans of beer from under the table and proceeded to pour their entire contents into the jar -- effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.
"Now," said the professor, as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The rocks are the important things - your family, your partner, your health, your children?things that, if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, your car.
The sand is everything else. The small stuff. "If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued "there is no room for the pebbles or the rocks. The same goes for your life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you.
Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out dancing. There will always be time to go to work, clean the house, give a dinner party and fix the disposal.
Sand
"Take care of the rocks first -- the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."
One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the beer represented.
The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of beers."

Traffic
Just between us guys, I think this is a damn good site to visit. You've seen it and you know what SixPackTech is all about. I've been monitoring traffic to this site for awhile, and I personally believe more guys like us would enjoy this site. And I could benefit from the notoriety.
So I'm gonna try something. It's called BlogRush and they have a video at that link if you'd like to view it. It's like a pyramid scheme for blogs with no money involved, just traffic.
I've put a brand new widget in the left-hand column that lists links to other sites with similar posts. Theoretically, we will all benefit. The widget will display different topics, hopefully related to what we do here. If ya like watcha see, click the link and check it out.
If it doesn't pan out, it's gone. Simple as that.
Let's see how it goes. I await your comments.

Favorites
We have a new feature here at SixPackTech - Faves.
If you like a post you see here on this site, comment about it or send an email and mention that you'd like it added to the site Faves. I'll do some mojo and add the post to the easy list in the left-hand column. There's a coupla two-tree there already.
The Faves are basically internal post links, not links to other websites. It's better than clicking on a label over by dair.

Ford Puma ad

I posted earlier about car chases and the movie Bullitt. Here's a video ad for the Ford Puma, a Euro-car, starring a brought-back-from-the-dead Steve McQueen.
The ad doesn't grab you by the throat like the movie did, but it's well made and has a few visual references that Steve McQueen fans will recognize.
Watch below.
Miller pill

Stopped off at the beer store today lookin' for some new and exotic brew to offer my opinion on. I remembered a much earlier post here about Miller Chill.
I asked the beer store guy what he thought of it. His reply in effect was, "It's a good beer and you can definitely taste the hint of salt and lime in it. My wife doesn't really like beer, but she likes this one. I think it's a bit sweeter, probably because of the lime."
I asked him to point it out for me and he directed me to the cooler. It seemed to me that the Miller Chill kind of blended into the surroundings of all the old regular beers that take up residence there.
I checked the price: Five niney nine for six green bottles. Sheesh. (You know where I'm going with this, dont you?) I grabbed a sixer, payed for it and headed home to the Manly Garage where I do all my beer research.
I popped one open and took a whiff. Hmm, nothin' grabbed me by the nose hairs like the other beers did. Nothin' special. I took a sip. A little sweet, a little aftertaste, a tinge of beer-bitter, and nothing after that. Finishing the bottle left my tongue asking, "Is that IT?"
It's my opinion to leave this beer for the ladies or the namby-pamby latte drinkers you may know. It was a beer that I wasn't sorry about when the bottle was empty. I'll skip this one in the future. It's not a Manly Beer. It's more like Near Beer.
Miller Chill... meh.

Big chase

The chase scene in the 1968 movie, Bullitt, became the quintessential automotive nail biter.
In 1972, not to be outdone, an Italian movie maker decided to incorporate his version of the ultimate car chase scene into his movie called The Master Touch.
It's 6 minutes long, and it's pretty damn good. Watch below.
Tech babes
Here are three more tech babes that have caught my eye and plucked my strings.

The first is Joanne Colan who is the host of Rocketboom, a four-times-weekly vidcast covering a vast array of subject matter. It's often humorous in a wry and witty sort of way and chock full of video eyecandy. Joanne herself is quite an eyeful. At one time she hosted MTV's "The Fridge" which explains why she's such at ease in front of the camera. It's a pleasure to watch Joanne and listen to her perfect British accent. She's the only public figure I know of who actually pronounces the "d" in "Wednesday". Rocketboom is definitely a browser bookmark just for a daily dose of Joanne. Oh, and the video stuff too.

Next we have Morgan Webb, who anchors an almost daily tech news vidcast. She's a 28 year-old Canadian with a visage that could certainly launch a ship or two. Her news stories are impeccably delivered, very informative and entertaining to watch. If you have the time and/or the interest, check her out at Webb Alert.
Finally, we have Amber MacArthur, or AmberMac as she's more familiarly known.
She's a young blonde cutie with an infectious smile. She cohosts CommandN with partner Will Pate and the video podcast can be viewed weekly. CommandN is a tech show featuring Web picks, tech tips and new gadgets. AmberMac is nice to watch. If you saw her at a party, you'd definitely ask, "MAN, who's the good lookin' blonde?" You can subscribe to CommandN via iTunes.
Babes can be geeks too.
A coauthor!

I've invited a coauthor to SixPackTech. That's him Simpsonized on the left there. He goes by the name of fleetflatfoot (say that ten times fast) and the name says it all.
He's a guy with bad arches who sells tons of cars to taxicab companies or...
He's the guy who's always on his feet overlooking the ships at sea or...
He's a fast apartment dweller bouncer or...
He's a very quick cop.
I know him well. He has a university degree and majored in exotic languages, one of which was Chicagoese. He seems to know English and speaks it at least as well I do.
I know he's a good guy because he owns a Mac and schleps it everywhere he goes, dragging his wireless mouse around by its tail. I've read some of his stuff and it's quite good and well written.
So join me in welcoming fleetflatfoot to the manly confines of SixPackTech. You'll see his posts here from time to time.
