Quantum Jujitsu

Jujitsu, the gentle art, has been eclipsed by the fights in the octagon of the UFC. But I must say that the martial art of Jujitsu should not be overlooked as a means of self defense.

Shown below is an amazing demonstration of what's called "Quantum Jujitsu." Watch as the the fighter in the blue ghi (or whatever they call it) throws himself all over his opponent to effect some phenomenal takedowns.

Gym hoop

Gym hoop. Is it a sport? Is it art? Is it dance? Call it a "sprance."

Shown below is a video of a gym hoop performance with quite a different outcome.

5 manly sports that will kick your ass

And Rugby ain't one of 'em.

These are sports that, up until now, I've never heard of and I doubt you have as well.

These sports are from regions of the world familiar to us all, but the whole concept of the sport is beyond reasoning.

Read about these 5 kick-ass sports here.

Brett Favre through the years

Love 'em or hate 'em, the Green Bay Packers have etched out their own niche in the annals of football. Of recent years, Brett Favre stands out as one of the best of the best.

Destined to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, Favre has finally announced he will hang up his helmet and retire. The rivalry of the Bears vs. Packers will continue.

But when you sit back and think about it, you must have some respect for a quarterback who has broken the fingers of his own receivers through the sheer power behind his passes.

Sports Illustrated has a great pictorial of the wonderboy that is/was Brett Favre.

Disc Golf - better 'n paintball

I. Hate. Golf. Clubs, holes, little tiny balls (ahem,) pastel-colored polo shirts, knee socks, riding pants and all the other snobbish crap that goes along with it. And the initial outlay of cash is enough to max out several credit cards.

Here's a great alternative to that "sport" which still maintains all the manliness involved in the factors of distance, accuracy and technique. Disc Golf. DO NOT call it "Frisbee golf."

A friend at work is involved deeply in disc golf and has educated me in some of the nuances that makes the game take on the camaraderie of bowling with a bit of basketball thrown in, wrapped up in a golf outing.

For a few bucks anyone can get started, and finding a course to play is as easy as checkin' the 'Net for a place nearby. Get yourself three discs, a driver, an approach disc and a putter, and start shootin'. Even for a guy my age, who's missing some marbles and part of an appendage, I may just unpark my computer butt, flip a few discs and go out and get the stink blown offa me.

Less physically involved than painball and a lot less snooty than white-balled golf, this is an excellent way to a bit of fitness, friendly competition and lung clearing, fresh-air jaunt out on the course. Leave the ball chasers to their ball washing pastimes and try some disc golf. You'll love it.

Oh, and don't take your dog with you. He may just disappear somewhere out on the course.

Check out this place for a great explanation of disc golf and what's involved. Then watch the video below for a greater sense of what disc golf is all about.

Sports interviews gone bad

Here are some interview snippets that have made the Hall of Shame in the annals of sports.

Mike Tyson really takes the prize here, not caring what he says or the fact that he's on camera. Joe Namath, with a snootful, tries to cuddle up to the lady with the mike and Joe Kines, Alabama coach, demonstrates his command of the English language.

Watch.

Rabid sports fans

You've seen the leather guys in the stands at the Raiders' games, the cheeseheads at the Packers' games and any of the thousands of topless fat guys in 15-degree weather.

Rabid sports fans are a bizarre bunch to be sure. Take a look of some of the more over-the-top fans from games around the world.

(Note: some shots may be NSFW.)

Amazing urban soccer moves

This video is truly amazing. How these kids can do this where they do this is astounding. They're like a precision drill team hyped up on soccer.

The sound track is in Spanish, but there's really no telling from the video where in the world it was taken.

Nonetheless, watch the video and be awed by their acrobatics and outrageous skills.

Crikey! That bloody roo's ringin' on the 9th hole!

Short clip from an Australian newscast about some golfers who are paid a visit by a kangaroo.

So what's so special?

Well, it's got an itch that just has to be scratched right bloody now.

Try to find something like this on American TV.

Moguls? What are moguls?

Moguls are speed bumps for skiers and other people playing in the snow.

They keep you honest. They help you exhibit what little shred of talent and/or mental ability you really have.

Moguls are surprises in disguises.

Ah, moguls. And stupid people.

Nail guns built in October

Pneumatic nail guns are a wonderful invention. They save a ton of time on a roofing or framing job. Or, for that matter, any job that involves a lot of nailing with the same kind of nail.

But there is a downside. You should always check to see when the nailer was manufactured. Those built in October have a dubious history as shown in the video below.

Ruining a Super Bowl party

Are you having a get-together for the big game on Sunday? Over at our place, the boys and their families/main squeezes make themselves at home like beef cattle in a small corral. It gets pretty loud at times and there's plenty of laughter. The highlight of the day (and the Big Drawing Card) is Mom's homemade Reuben sammiches.

If you're planning on having a Super Bowl party, here's some advice: Check out his link today and try to avoid inviting any of the 11 personalities guaranteed to ruin the Big Day.

Don't say you haven't been warned.

Right on time sports photos

It's that one single microsecond when the shutter snaps and a mighty athlete looks like a schlub.

Springboard and high divers are known for outrageous facial expressions on the way down.

Check out some pictures of sports moments that some athletes would like to forget.

Athletes with really bad names

All of these guys are in sports (if you consider Nascar a sport).

All of these guys have names that make sportscasters and fans chuckle.

What were their mothers thinking?

Check 'em out here.

Choreographed Martial Arts

This is a short and sweet event from the All China Games way back in '06.

Yes, it's staged.

But it's actually quite good.

Watch it.

Looking down on Yao Ming

Kenny George is 7 ft., 7 in. tall which is an inch taller than Yao Ming.

He's presently attending the University of North Carolina but the future looks bright for this young dude.

Check out a great article on this altitudinous athlete right here.

And if you ever meet him, don't even think of asking him, "How's the weather up there?" Ya just might get fouled.

Thinking about trying mixed martial arts?

Many uf us are fans of the Ultimate Fighting Championship shown on Spike TV or pay-per-view. I have enjoyed many get-togethers where crowds of friends gather to watch this display of ultimate manliness. Organized street fighting.

I know of a few who are thinking of training for mixed martial arts after watching these contests. However, the risks are enormous. Many injuries that can and probably will be sustained are disfiguring at best and life changing at worst.

I've recently run across a pictorial which shows in graphic detail some of the injuries that these warrior athletes have sustained. Many of them will leave nasty scars for life.

If you're thinking of taking up martial arts, if you think you have the mettle to become one of these super athletes, check out this pictorial first.

Then have another think.

The agony of defeat

Short little video of sports bloopers and athletes who have lost their way.
