The man who played Moses is gone. Alas.
Planet of the Apes, Omega Man, Ben Hur and many other films had him in a major role.
Known for his leadership of the National Rifle Association for some time and a bad toupee, ol' Charlie became the brunt of some jokes. He had a nice long stint of being the manliest man in film.
His most memorable role was that of Moses in The Ten Commandments. Shown below is a seldom seen trailer for the movie.

Sir Arthur C. Clarke - 1917-2008

The world bids farewell to Sir Arthur C. Clarke who passed away at his home in Colombo, Sri Lanka. He was 90 years old.
He was best known for his book 2001: A Space Odyssey which Stanley Kubrick made popular via the cinema. I remember seeing it in the theater in the late '60s.
Clarke is also known for his idea of geostationary satellites used for communication. And this quote:
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. The world of science and science fiction have lost a legend.
More info here and here.

Garfield without Garfield

Here's the idea: remove Garfield from the comic strip, and you have a sad portrait of Jon, a guy with a mental disorder.
Funny? Maybe you'll find some humor in this. Sad? Well, take a look right here and decide for yourself.

D & D creator passes away
Gary Gygax, the man who invented fantasy game of Dungeons and Dragons, has passed away.
It's sad, but his legacy lives on. D&D is still played today by multitudes of dudes and dudettes, all with polyhedral craniums.
Requiescat in pace.
You can read an interview BoingBoing had with Mr. Gygax right here.

Clubbin' Jersey boys
This is so wrong. These guys have been somehow misled along the way to the Land of Cool.
Spray on skin tans, fanned out spikey hair and just full of themselves.
This is beyond normality. Ten years from now they may look back and laugh. If someone doesn't do something drastic.
Check out these "doods" right here.

Only in Russia

Since the fall of Communism, a few eastern European (Asian?) countries have fallen on hard times, despite what you may have read in the news.
A while ago, I posted pictures of the hardships that have befallen Romania.
Now check out what it's like to live and make ends meet in Russia.
Some of our more warped readers may even find this funny.

The ugliest colleges in America

With the age of Millenium Park in Chicago and the Art Deco goodness of the skyscrapers in New York, some of America's colleges just don't get the hint.
These buildings are dull, drab and boring.
Check out a pictorial of 20 of the ugliest colleges here.

9 telltale signs that you're probably an asshole

We know who they are. They're all around us.
We probably see anywhere from 1 to 5 of these people every day.
It makes me think that there's an asshole gene common to to each of these.
God's sense of humor? In-breeding? Bad parenting? Who knows.
But they're seemingly everywhere.
9 telltale signs with pictures and foul language here.

Batmobile auction fiasco

There's some sort of a weird story behind this car. Apparently, the creator of this car tried to auction it off with a huge price tag set as reserve.
Some guy bought it for a very low price, but the car comes with contracts from the Batman franchise.
The guy can't even drive it on the street.
Check out the story (with a Drew Carey video) here.

Evel Knievel - R.I.P

Evel Knievel has passed away. After breaking over 40 bones in his body over the span of his career, he died in bed of natural causes.
One of his most legendary motorcycle jumps was made at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas in 1967. Here's a snippet of the event:
While in Las Vegas, Nevada, to watch Dick Tiger fight a middleweight title fight, Knievel first saw the fountains at Caesar's Palace and decided to jump them. To get an audience with the casino's CEO Jay Sarno, Knievel created a fictitious corporation called Evel Knievel Enterprises and three fictitious lawyers to make phone calls to Sarno. Knievel also placed phone calls to Sarno claiming to be from ABC-TV and Sports Illustrated inquiring about the jump. Sarno finally agreed to meet Knievel and the deal was set for Knievel to jump the fountains on December 31, 1967. After the deal was set, Knievel tried to get ABC to air the event live on Wide World of Sports. ABC declined, but said that if Knievel had the jump filmed and it was as spectacular as he said it would be, they would consider using it later.
Knievel used his own money to have actor/director John Derek produce a film of the Caesar's jump. To keep costs low, Derek used his then-wife, Linda Evans, as one of the camera operators. It was Evans who filmed Knievel's famous landing. On the morning of the jump, Knievel stopped in the casino and placed a single $100 dollar bet on the blackjack table, which he lost, stopped by the bar and got a shot of Wild Turkey and then headed outside where he was joined by several members of the Caesar's staff, as well as two scantily clad showgirls. After doing his normal pre-jump show and a few warm up approaches, Knievel began his real approach. When he hit the takeoff ramp, he felt the motorcycle unexpectedly decelerate. The sudden loss of power on the takeoff caused Knievel to come up short and land on the safety ramp which was supported by a van. This caused the handlebars to be ripped out of his hands as he tumbled over them onto the pavement where he skidded into the Dunes parking lot. As a result of the crash, Knievel received a crushed pelvis and femur, fractures to his hip, wrist and both ankles and a concussion that kept him in a coma for 29 days.
Knievle's legend lives on with every motorcycle jump.

Jacko in pictures
What do Michael Jackson and Mr. Potatohead have in common?
They both have 20 noses.
The anomaly that is Jacko, the little kid in an adult body, who's had more alterations than an open faced copper mine, will be on the cover of Ebony Magazine. Shown as a white man. How bizarre is that?
Something along the way has gone terribly wrong. First, Jacko, who used to be way cool, has become an entity unto himself. Second, Ebony Magazine features him, starched, on its cover.
You gotta see this. Ebony Mag article is here.
Michael Jackson through the years pictorial is here.

Why the music industry just doesn't get it

Hijinks Ensue has a hilarious webcomic which could explain why the music industry has fallen flat on its face when it comes to digital music.
It's amaizing that everyone with half a brain knows and understands what the music moguls just can't seem to grasp.
You can view the rest of the comic here.

Crap! They're all gone!
It looks like I've been censored again. The entire picture library repository for the Nat or Not feature has been deleted. It's not there anymore. No announcement, no mail, nuthin'. Just gone.
Funny, though, the Butt of the Week shots are still there and intact. So... it looks like butts are ok and boobs are not. I'll go somewhere else and try a new hosting service and see what happens.
This whole fiasco is compounded by the fact that we're still working O.T. out the wazoo, and Saturday looks like another 8-hour day at the ol' warehouse. Not to worry. I'll have plenty of time left in the day (night) to do a beer review and get the babes back up. New pics and voting are coming soon. Hang in there.
Thanks.
Update: just received a message today informing me that the Nat or Not album has been deleted due to inappropriate content. From the message: "...cannot contain obscenity, pornography, promotions of hate, incitement of violence, or spam, malicious code, or viruses."
Apparently someone has deemed pictures of bare breasted women to be obscene or pornographic. Or they hate it. Or it makes them violent or gets them sick. So be it.

Fast food - what you see vs. what you get

Who are they trying to fool? Why, us, of course.
And we keep going back.
Here's an interesting pictorial of some of the more popular fast food items. On the left, as advertised. On the right, what is delivered.

Steven, the Dell Dude - where is he now?

You remember the "Dude, yer gettin' a Dell" guy from years ago. Well, today, just like Dell, Ben Curtis is just hanging in there slingin' tequilas at a bar.
Back in '03, Curtis got busted on a marijuana charge and it effectively ended his career as a character actor. Dell then stopped the "Dude" advertising campaign and went about more traditional ways of pushing their product.
Click here to get a little more info and also gander at Bens' latest photo taken at his place of employment.

Information Gravelhighway
So I'm at work the other day. I get an assignment which will have me spending the shift in a hotel room. I can't tell you what I was doing or why I was there. You know, secret cop stuff. But I can tell you that it involved an extended period of time doing nothing.
But Iprepared in advance and had a great idea to stave off the boredom: bring the MacBook and connect to the internet via wi-fi! Lo and behold, it being a hotel with modern amenities, it did in fact offer the service. I connected to their network using the temporary identity assigned to me, and I began surfing. First stop: SixPackTech, of course.
But upon trying to view the first video clip, I was redirected to another window. The network administration program detected that I was viewing Questionable content, and slowed my connection to 56K for the next 10 minutes.
Questionable content?
You've got to be kidding me, right?
I asked someone familiar with the system about the message and I was advised it was because I had an unfamiliar computer, and it would be recognized the next time I logged on. So I let the 10 minutes pass and tried again.
Same message. Questionable content. 56K for 10 minutes.
Imagine the madness brewing inside as I waited again, since trying to download a video at 56K is like watching paint dry without the satisfaction that you actually accomplished something. After that 10 minutes, I tried a third time.
Questionable content.
Why this kept coming up, I don't know. I didn't have the patience to go to any other sites, and I couldn't really quarrel with hotel staff, as their techs were most certainly not on scene. I abandoned my quest for my daily dose of humor, babes and tech news, and instead popped in a DVD to keep me occupied. I can only assume that since 6PT offers links to view R rated (not X rated, mind you) material, it gets labeled as "questionable" by someone of infinite wisdom and is censored. Which doesn't make sense to me. Aren't hotels in general, places full of questionable content? Spectravision, anyone?
So be warned. If you bring your laptop with you on a business trip, vacation, or other rendezvous, you may not be granted access to view whatever you want in the privacy of your own room. Someone else has already decided for you what you should or shouldn't see.
