Picture blast

Steampunk Mac mini

This Steampunk mod is absolutely stunning. I can only imagine how much time it took to come up with this finished product.

Dave Veloz has crafted a tin box Mac mini replete with all the classic frills and nuances that scream 19th century. There's even an olden monitor and typewriter-keyed keyboard. The addition of the oval silhouettes and kerosene lamp tie a nice pretty bow around this extraordinary mod package.

Enjoy some nice pictures of this beautiful computer here.

Army humor

Our guys in Iraq and Afganistan are obviously under a tremendous amount of stress. I, for one, support our troops 100% regardless of the origin of the Middle East conflict.

It is good to know, however, that the guys are maintaining their collective senses of humor. Here's a great collection of pictures sent in from over there that will make you smile.

D & D creator passes away

Gary Gygax, the man who invented fantasy game of Dungeons and Dragons, has passed away.

It's sad, but his legacy lives on. D&D is still played today by multitudes of dudes and dudettes, all with polyhedral craniums.

Requiescat in pace.

You can read an interview BoingBoing had with Mr. Gygax right here.

Fuel cell concept car

The Morgan Life Car will be unveiled at the Geneva Motorshow. This appears to be a melding of old design and new technology; a Steampunk kind of car. Let's call it "Hydropunk" as the car is designed to run on a hydrogen fuel cell.

With the front looking stylishly similar to a Duesenberg, and the back like an Audi, this car will raise a lot of eyebrows no matter where it goes. Hmm. Parking may be a problem, though.

The Time Shop revisited

Good things come to those who wait out a mystery. The Echo Park Time Travel Shop (posted yesterday, shown below) is a very clever fund raising idea for a non-profit organization called 826 National.

826 National is an innovative tutoring, writing, and publishing nonprofit based in seven cities across the country. To raise funds, inspire creativity, and advertise our programs to the local community, most of our centers include a street-front retail store filled with unusual products, entertaining signage, and, of course, our books for sale. San Francisco’s pirate supply store sells glass eyes and one-of-a-kind peglegs, 826NYC’s Superhero Supply Company offers custom-fit capes, Seattle’s Greenwood Space Travel Supply Company sells “rare imports from other planets,” 826 Michigan's Monsters Union Local specializes in bottling screams, 826LA features a time travel store, there's a secret agent supply store in Chicago, and a Cryptozoology shop in Boston is in the works!
Now ya see? It sounds pretty cool to me. A truly unique experience for those who participate in the program, as well as those who visit their one-of-a-kind stores.

Check out their site right here. When you're finished reading about the stores, click on their "About" tab, and read about the organization.
