Saturday Night Blue Collar Brew Review

Tonight I'm deviating from the "exotic" beer path and I've decided to select a beverage with more of a domestic flavor. Tonight's brew is Dos Equis Ambar. Dos Equis means "two exes" but I prefer to say it stands for two TENS. See my previous article on the Mac OS to get what I'm talking about. I trudged off to the beer store and dropped down $7.99 plus tax for a sixpack. If you figure 8 bucks for 6 beers, that's about a buck thirty five a beer. Not that bad for a premium beer.

When the time came, I popped open the first 12-ounce bottle and took a swig straight from the bottle. At first, a metallic taste. It seems the metal taste is part of the capping process. It detracts from the true taste of the beer.

Decanting the brew revealed its dark, rich, amber color and one would think that upon seeing this dark color, that the beer would "taste dark". I can assure you it doesn't. After pouring, the metallic taste was gone and the brew has none of that bitterness that's usually associated with dark beers. As a matter of fact, it seems to me that just mild hint of "sweet" comes through towards the bottom of the first mugful. Very nice; very smooth; tame in comparison to the other imported beers I've sampled in the past weeks. This is good stuff! One would think that a Mexican beer, any Mexican beer, is somewhat like Corona. This beer is certainly not like Corona with or without the lime. It's a lot better by a long shot. I recommend not drinking this beer from the bottle, but rather poured into a proper drinking vessel. I do recommend drinking this beer, though.

This beer is a keeper. I'm going to add Dos Equis to my list of top Blue Collar beers for future reference. Dos Equis would be my choice when special family members are coming to visit or when you're going to meet up with your closest friends for a real fun night and male bonding, perhaps meeting up with old friends after you or some pal has just gotten married. Be prepared, however. Your friends will like this beer. You may just get stuck drinking the Coronas with lime that they brought and relinquishing this fine brew to your special friends.

Hey! Git outa there!

Damn cats.
