All those hours of preparation and perspiration, and you forget a few critical tackwelds that should have been filled in.
Back to the garage.

Racer loses his ass-end
Petra

Petra Nemcova is quite an eyeful.
Here's a nice collection of photos for your eyeball feastage.

Humans vs. polished inclined planes

Slides. Some folks just don't know how they work.
Same thing with a force called "inertia".

This new house - Japanese style

Those Japanese may be wacky at times, but when it comes to technology, these guys are right on top of things.
A company has developed a way for a crew of just a few guys to construct a modest home in three days or less using new-tech fasteners and joinery (jointery?)
Below is an interesting video of a house frame going up right before your eyes.
Norm, Tommy and the TOH boys would be very interested indeed.

It's those wacky Japanese again
Leopard: What will happen next

Here's what's going to happen this weekend: the Apple fanboys, true to form, will be going snake-shit over the new OS. The weekend promises to have plenty of pictures of nerds standing in line at the Apple Store, purchasing the software, triumphant smiles, and Apple employees standing in the background applauding.
Next come the unboxing pictures. The Apple faithful are the only ones who do this. They photograph the opening of the box and all its contents. I wonder if any of these guys bring the camera into the delivery room for the birth of their firstborn with the same zeal they exhibit for an unboxing. It's the same thing, right? Just different contents. Non-Apple contents.
Then come the videos of the installation of the software. There will be numerous screencasts and YouTube videos popping up all over.
Personal reviews will start stacking up like jets on the tarmac at O'Hare field in Chicago. The Windows faithful will not be far behind. They'll be poo-pooing the Leopard piece of crap from now until their bloody Service Pack 1 comes out. Deep down, these guys are eating their hearts out wondering "What the hell did I get myself into with this Windows Vista travesty?"
Then the Stewarts will come out. "Look what I can do!" Little tweaks will be revealed, Easter eggs will be found and then the incompatibilities will arise. The Windows guys will jump on this like hyenas after a lion kill.
Third party apps will hit us like a slapstick pie, and we'll be borrowing money from Uncle George to buy a lot of them. Wives and girlfriends will start to question their mates' sanities and fidelities.
Before ya know it, Apple will release its first Leopard software update, 10.5.1. Then we'll start over again, only no unboxing.
It's a never-ending cycle. It's one of those things that cults are made of and these are the cultist rituals. As long as there is Apple, and its uncanny innovation, there will be The Cult of Mac. I usually sit back and watch and wait for all the dust to die down. Then I compose a nice letter to Uncle George.
Mac OS X Leopard reviewed

A couple of reviews are in on the day before the official release of Mac OS X Leopard.
David Pogue of the New York Times and The Missing Manual series of how-to books weighs in on the the new OS. Dave says Leopard is "powerful and polished".
Walt Mossberg also checks in. Uncle Walt doesn't like being scooped by the young guys, I guess. He says in his article that Leopard is "better and faster than Windows Vista". Well, we knew that a long time ago when OS X 10.1 came out.
Read David Pogue's review.
Read Walt Mossberg's review.
Watch a 7 minute video of Mossberg talking about Leopard. He should spend some time and clean up his bookshelves. He kinda looks like a Colonel Sanders wannabe, doesn't he?
